Alteon expands its sandwich panel product range

Alteon, part of NEC Group’s Metal Structures and Facilities division, has completed the modernization of its sandwich panel production line. The upgraded equipment will enable the company to expand its product range to include roof panels and panels nearly 1.2 metres wide, while also speeding up the final stages of production.

Sandwich panels are used in the construction of industrial facilities, warehouses and other buildings for walls and roofing. Depending on project requirements, customers need products of different types and sizes. The modernization will allow Alteon to offer a wider selection of products and meet a broader range of construction material requirements.

To manufacture wider panels, the company replaced the Z-LOCK joint-forming unit. Changes were also made to the finished product handling and packaging area. New equipment with vacuum grippers was installed to move the panels, along with a mechanism for turning them over.

In addition, the line’s system for feeding the base sheets used to form panel stacks before automatic packaging was upgraded. As a result, some operations will be automated, reducing labour requirements and speeding up the handling and packaging of finished products.
